Help the Blind Cat Sanctuary and have some Christmas fun!

The Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. is having a 2008 virtual Christmas tree lighting! If you have someone on your list who already has everything, this is the perfect gift!  The Blind Cat Sanctuary has a virtual tree that needs to be trimmed. They have lights and gifts to make the tree beautiful, and different dollar donations will let you trim the tree.

For all “GIFT DONATIONS” of $10 or more, a gift card will be sent to the recipient via email or postal mail if you will provide the address information.

Simply choose which lights and/or gifts you’d like to donate, send them an email and tell whether you want the size of the gift to be disclosed or undisclosed. You can use Paypal on their site or mail a check to them at:

St Pauls, NC 28384

Check out Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary’s site now and you can see the gifts and dedications that have already been made. This is easy and fun, and it helps the most innocent, helpless animals - blind cats who would otherwise have been destroyed at ordinary shelters.  The Blind Cat Sanctuary provides a wonderful loving home for these animals, but it needs our support!   My family is sponsoring Miss Molly, the beautiful kitty in the picture.

Sally Cat had to go to the veterinarian

Author: tabby - Categories: Tabby Talk

Sally and I usually greet Mom at the door when she comes home from work, and we tell her loudly that we have not been fed in hours and hours.  But Monday Sally did not come to greet Mom.  In fact, she didn’t get up at all.  Mom went and found where she was lying in the basement, but she was slow to get up and looked as if she were limping or walking very carefully.  She ate her dinner, but she seemed to try to avoid moving and wouldn’t chase a flashlight beam or anything!   All evening long, she lay in an upright position, licking her lips from time to time.

Tuesday morning, Mom took Sally to the doctor!   He said she had no fever and he checked her all over for bites or other injuries but found none.  He did blood tests - a CBC plus a panel to make sure her kidneys, liver, etc., were all right, and he said she had the checkup of a one year old cat!   Everything looked fine.

He said that since her organs were all working fine and she had no broken bones, he’d like to give her a shot of an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) to see if that would make her feel better in case she had a slight soft tissue or orthopedic injury.   Mom said that was fine, and he gave Sally the shot.  Within a couple of hours, Sally was marching up and down on Mom’s papers, meowing and purring like always!  She’s been really happy and so far she seems just like normal.

Except that she smells like the vet’s office.  So every time she comes near me, I spit at her to go take a bath.  I guess she has taken many baths since Monday, but I still spit at her and won’t sleep on Mom’s bed.  Mom says next time she has to take Sally to the doctor for something, she’s going to take me along too just so I’ll smell the same way!

How to get another cat off of a great sleeping spot

Author: tabby - Categories: Lifehacks for Cats - Tags: ,

If you’re the dominant cat:  If your mom is not watching, I don’t have to tell you how to get another cat off of a good spot!   However, if you are in front of your mom, you will have to be more devious.   Just march right up to the other cat very forcefully, and start licking him briskly.  This looks “so adorable!” to your mom, but the other cat will get the message loud and clear.   He’ll be off of that spot quickly and it’s all yours, even pre-warmed!

If you’re not the boss cat:  One way to get the boss cat to get off of that great spot is to go to the area where you usually get fed and start meowing really loudly.   Make it sound like it would if your mom were getting out the treats!   Really put some feeling into it.   Soon the boss cat will be in the kitchen pushing between you and the food bowls.  This is the point where you quietly go to the Spot.   Usually, the boss cat will find something superior to do somewhere else and will not be back to the Spot anytime soon, so you can enjoy your nap.
